About 10 days ago, I started working out in a new gym. I wanted a place that will be close to my home with an adequate number of dumbbells and treadmills for my running. This place suited me just fine: small, cosy, and surprisingly empty. I’m not saying that I’m the only person working out there, but for 10 days straight, including the weekends, I only had to share a strength training machine once, and I never had to wait for a treadmill.
But this isn’t the only reason why I love my new gym.
The real reason is that for the first time, I’m member of a gym in which there’s a TV for each treadmill. You have your own remote and your own TV right in front of you when you jog or walk. And they have cable which means that you’re going to find something you enjoy watching or find interesting at any time of the day, no matter what.
The fact that I can use the treadmill and watch a sitcom, the news, or even some interesting show on the history channel has turned me into a more active person. I’ve now added regular walks a few times a week to my routine. I always ran a few times a week, but I didn’t do it every day. Now I either walk or run 5-6 times each week.
Just yesterday I walked for 50 minutes while watching a cop show. It wasn’t the best show I have ever seen in my life, but it certainly passed the time pretty easily and I was able to maintain a quick pace. I think I walked for about 4 miles give or take. Not the most intensive workout but certainly a way to be more active, burn more calories, and keep your body in shape and your metabolism high.
If you’re looking for a gym where you live, sign up for one which offers a TV for each treadmill. It can make it much easier for you to remain active.
