Canola oil dangers – Is Canola Oil Healthy?

For years we’ve been told of the vast health benefits of Canoal Oil. But is this really the truth? Is Canola Oil healthy or bad for you?

Recently, I received an email from Mike Geary, a nutrition and fitness expert I respect a lot and the creator of the Truth About Abs program, which told a totally different story. I decided to do some research on my own and discovered the truth about Canola Oil health dangers and I believe it is something you should know about too.

The public view of Canola Oil is that it’s a healthy oil because it contains a lot of monounsaturated fats much like olive oil. While this is true, it is far from the whole picture.

You see, Canola Oil is heavily processed. This process involves caustic refining, degumming, bleaching, and deoderization, all using high heat and questionable chemicals.

It is this processing which causes all of the problems by doing 2 things:

  1. It oxidizes the polyunsaturated fat which increased the amount of free radicals in your body and the risk of several diseases.
  2. It turns some of the omega-3 acids in canola oil to trans-fat, the very worse fat you can consume.

Olive oil isn’t subject to these manipulations because it is cold pressed. Canola Oil is a different story.

Healthier choices of oil are:

  1. Virgin Olive oil for seasoning a low heat cooking.
  2. Coconut oil for cooking at any temperature.

Therefore, try to avoid canola oil and stick to healthier oils.

This isn’t the only unhealthy “health” food. Check out this article: why is diet soda bad for you

Note: this article was modified due to a comment made by Steve (see below), a vigilant reader informing me about a mistake I had made regarding toxins in Canola Oil. Canola Oil is made of rapeseed from which the toxins in questions have been removed. I apologized for the misinformation I had posted earlier. However, the processing of Canola Oil does influence its nutritional value.

    You’ve got your facts wrong.
Canola is an advanced form of rapeseed in which the toxic components you mention were bred out of the oilseed through traditional plant breeding techniques. It was developed in the 1970s in Canada and has since grown to become the number two oilseed in the world.
You don’t have to process those toxic elements out; they’re already gone.
