Wouldn’t you want to lose as much as 45 kilograms of your weight (around 95 pounds) just by drinking an energy drink?
Well, a woman by the name of Brooke Robertson did just that.
After seeing her weight spike during her pregnancy, she weighed over 100 kilograms. Now, after putting herself through an ultra-strict diet which consisted predominantly of Red Bull, of which she drank over 10 can each day, she weighs 60 kg.
While this may seem like a great weight loss, this is far from the case, for while Brooke did manage to shed off the pounds, she developed some severe health problems for which she was even hospitalized eventually.
Her diet sparked an addiction to Red Bull (which is still banned in some countries) and created a heart problem she suffers from to this day, even now when she has been weaned from her addiction.
Furthermore, her nutrition was so bad that she had problems sleeping, constantly shook, and it is still unclear what the long term affects of this severe diet will be.
What can this teach us?
I for one do not applaud Brooke Robertson. She did herself great phsyical harm and as a mother of a small child this is irresponsible. These strict and extreme diets may produce results on the scale but they are also likely to create many worse problems.
Doing yourself harm is never worth it, even if it brings down your weight. You are much better off working out regularly and eating right in order to lose weight and still be healthy.
Note: Red Bull issued a statement that their drink is not addictive. However, Brooke Robertson’s doctors definitely stated that she was addicted.
