Going to the gym is a major hassle for a lot of people. Hell, even I don’t want to go on occasion. I admit that.
Because we’re all busy people, it’s important to make the most of your time at the gym. The more you get done, the better your results will be and the greater your drive will be to keep going to the gym again and again.
I’ve been a member of gyms for a long time and I noticed that there are a lot of people who make dismal use of their time there. I don’t want you to be the same. Here are some tips to make the most at the gym:
1. Socialize as little as possible - For some people the gym is a social club. It’s not. It’s a place to exercise. Exercise and talking usually don’t go well together. If you’re lifting weights, this isn’t such a good time to be talking. I’m not saying to stop saying hello to people but to keep things to a minimum.
2. Bring music – Gym music tends to be annoying. Because of that, I have my good friend the ipod. I carry it with me to all workouts and it serves me well. Listening to my favorite songs helps to keep me focused on my workouts and energized.
3. Focus – When you’re doing an exercise, it’s important to focus on the movement. This will help you avoid making bad movements and risk injury. Do your exercises slowly and make sure you’re doing them correctly.
4. Don’t rest too long between sets – You need to be in rythem. Letting the body cool down too much between sets is a bad thing. Limit your rest time between sets to 60-90 seconds at the most.
5. Don’t read while doing cardio – I’ve done this myself and whenever I do, I just go slower. It’s a concentration lapse of the biggest proportion. You simply concentrate too much on what you read and not on your workout. Watching TV is okay. Listening to music even better.
6. Do a warmup – Avoiding injury is a key thing. Warming up before beginning to lift weights or doing cardio will help you to be healthy for the long run.
Follow these 6 tips and you will do much better at the gym.
