I’m sure you’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I happen to agree. I find that after eating breakfast I am much more alert, energetic, and that my mind is suddenly clear and all the mental cobwebs of last night have been banished.
I start my breakfast with 1-2 tall glasses of water. This is to replenish some of the liquids it lost the night before. This is very important.
Then I proceed to the main course (drumroll, please): Oatmeal!
I know, this doesn’t sound very exciting and may not get your taste buds to rise up in anticipation, but what can I say, this is what I eat.
Of course, oatmeal isn’t the only thing I eat. I cook it with low-fat milk (water is also possible but not as tasty, and soy milk is also a good option). It takes just a few minutes (a perfect time to drink some water and read the paper).
I then proceed to chop up some fresh nuts to add them later to my oatmeal. I love walnuts, almonds, brazilian nuts, and any other nut I can think of, but not peanuts which I find aren’t suitable for this dish. The nuts are rich in protein and healthy fats.
To add a little sweetness I usually add a teaspoon of honey and some cranberries. Cranberries are rich in antioxidants and are super-tasty.
Between the high fibre of the oatmeal, the nuts, the honey, and the cranberries, I get a balanced and delicious meal which supports me for hours. It just keeps you feeling full.
It’s also much more affordable than cereals and doesn’t come with all chemicals and preservatives pre-made cereals often contain.
So try out my breakfast and see how you feel with it.
