Walking to lose Weight

A lot of people believe it’s hard to lose weight. They believe that in order to get lean and healthy you need to workout like crazy, spend hours at the gym, and do a massive amount of boring cardio.

This is simply not true. As long as you maintain a healthy and balanced nutrition you can easily maintain your weight without any problme whatsoever. All you need to do is be active. And that doesn’t mean that you have to go to the gym 4 times a week. I recommend it for optimal results, but it’s not a must.

An excellent activity which you can do easily is walking. Yes, walking is ane excellent cardio activity which can help you remain flexible, active, and keep the weight down.

Walking is great because it’s free, you can do it outdoors, with a friend, and you can set your own pace. And yes, it can be done even when it’s called. I walked for an hour a few days ago at night in Amsterdam and it was close to freezing. And I had a blast!

Walking is fun especially when you do it with someone whose company you enjoy. Unlike running, you can easily talk while you walk without causing lack of breathing. It’s a great social activity.

If you’re married or in a relationship, then walking is also a great way to have some quality talk time with your spouse or partner. Not only do you keep in shape and get away from the TV for a while, but you also strengthen the bond between the 2 of you.

You can make walking more strenuous by walking at an incline, using ankle weights which you can buy at any sporting goods store, or carry lightweight dumbbells. I don’t recommend carrying dumbbells as I found that I enjoy having my hands free when I walk. It’s just more convenient that way.

Make sure to alternate the scenery where you walk as it will help you to avoid getting bored by the road.

Make sure to walk at a brisk pace to keep the heart rate elevated. This will make sure you’re burning a nice ammount of fat and calories and not just passing the time.

If you can’t find a walking partner get an ipod or another music player and just walk while listening to your favorite songs.

Of course, make sure to walk with care besides roads or when you’re crossing them.

Walking is great for fat loss and weight management. It may not get you buffed up and ripped, but it’s still a great workout.
