How to Control Chocolate Cravings

chocolate pieces Cravings come in many shapes and forms. Nearly everyone has some sort of craving for one or more foods. This doesn’t have to be such a bad thing, really. It depends a lot on how often it occurs and how extensively you indulge in it.

One of the most common craving is chocolate craving. A lot of people find chocolate irresistible and it constitutes a big part of their daily calorie intake.

This may be a problem as chocolate is sugar and calorie dense. Eating too much of it on a regular basis will likely lead to weight gain. So being able to control chocolate cravings is important. Not only for your weight but for your health as well.

Control not get rid of

You may have noticed that the goal I stated here is to control this craving not to get rid of it. Totally cutting out chocolate from your life is pointless and not necessary. A little chocolate every day won’t harm your health or cause you to gain weight. Only when you over indulge when it becomes a problem. Furthermore, going Cold Turky isn’t always the best way to cut down a craving. In fact, it can make you more vulnerable to overeating episodes in the future.

What I suggest is to let yourself have one or two small pieces of chocolate each day. If it helps, allocate pieces once a week for each day of the week so you’ll be less likely to overeat.

You can also go for chocolate with a higher ratio of cocoa in it. This tends to make the chocolate a bit more bitter and can go a long way to cutting down the amount of sugar you eat.

I also recommend trying to make the transition into other forms of sweet snacks. I think that once you get used to eating more fresh fruit on a regular basis that your desire for chocolate will diminish rapidly. I know that it’s something that has worked for me.

If you feel that this is a craving you simply can’t overcome, then it is likely that you have an emotional dependence on chocolate.  You need to work on severing the tie between your emotions and the temporary relief chocolate gives you.
